Celebrating diversity: Inspiring LGBTQ+ resources for Welsh educators

Celebrate LGBT History Month with a diverse collection of educational resources to inspire Welsh educators.
The image shows the Progress Pride Flag with the Intersex Inclusion design, waving against a clear blue sky. The flag consists of the traditional six-stripe rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple), symbolising LGBTQ+ pride. On the left side, there is a chevron with black and brown stripes to represent marginalised LGBTQ+ communities of colour, alongside pink, blue, and white stripes representing the transgender community. Additionally, a yellow triangle with a purple circle inside has been added to symbolise intersex people, making this an updated version of the Progress Pride Flag.

Why LGBTQ+ resources matter in Welsh education

February marks LGBT History Month in the UK, offering Welsh educators a perfect opportunity to enrich their teaching practices with inclusive and diverse perspectives. Adnodd believes that weaving LGBTQ+ stories and connections into all Areas of Learning and Experience (AoLEs) creates a more meaningful, representative education for all learners.

Our carefully curated collection of resources spans multiple formats, designed to inspire educators, whether you’re:

  • Teaching in traditional school settings.
  • Supporting young people in third-sector organisations.
  • Delivering services in community spaces like sports clubs and libraries.

While some content may require age-appropriate consideration, our main goal is to spark creativity, share authentic Welsh LGBTQ+ stories, and enhance your pedagogical practice for truly inclusive education. We hope that these materials interest you, as an educator!

The creator of a TV series listed below – Lost Boys and Fairies – is Daf James (he/they), who told us:

Having inclusive, positive representation of LGBTQ+ lives in Wales is so important. This helps to create a safe and supporting learning environment for young people and adults in schools and youth organisations. It’s wonderful to see such a variety of podcasts, books, reports, social media content available in Wales and in Welsh.

A picture of Daf: James: A person with curly dark hair and a beard sits on stone steps in front of a blue door, wearing a bright red dungaree over a blue denim-style shirt. Their expression is calm and confident, with a direct gaze at the camera. The background features a light-coloured stone building with subtle architectural details.
