Over £500,000 announced for new GCSE resources
At the 2024 National Eisteddfod in Pontypridd, Adnodd and its partners announced a funding boost of £560,000 for additional teaching and learning materials to support the rollout of brand new Curriculum for Wales GCSEs.
Adnodd and its partners are developing a new range of digital resources to help teachers and learners in Wales get ready for the new GCSE curriculum. During this year’s National Eisteddfod, it was announced that the Welsh Government will invest £560,000 in these resources, which are set to be published later in 2025.
From September 2025, the new “made for Wales” GCSEs will be taught in schools as part of the National Qualifications for 14-16 year olds. The curriculum gives schools greater choice of subjects and a wider range of assessment options. Adnodd is working closely with partners, including the WJEC, to develop and publish these essential resources.
Speaking at the National Eisteddfod in August, Adnodd’s Chief Executive, Emyr George, expressed gratitude for the Welsh Government’s support. Over the next two years, the funding will ensure a comprehensive set of digital resources that will aid schools and learners in their transition to the new qualifications. He said:
“We are grateful to the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Lynn Neagle and the Welsh Government for their investment in these new resources. The funding will help ensure that all new GCSE subjects will be supported by the highest quality, bilingual resources that are freely available and accessible to everyone. At Adnodd, our mission is to support the Curriculum for Wales, and these resources will be invaluable for both educators and learners, enriching the learning experience across the board.”

Under the Curriculum for Wales Framework, schools now have greater responsibility for shaping what learners are taught. The new resources are designed to be easily adapted, edited, and tailored to meet the unique needs of individual schools, ensuring they remain relevant to learners throughout Wales.
The WJEC had already committed £1.3 million to develop and repurpose existing materials across multiple subjects. This additional £560,000 investment guarantees that resources will be available in both Welsh and English for all new GCSE subjects before teaching begins in September 2025.
