On World Book Day, Adnodd has announced that all maintained schools and settings in Wales will have access to credit to use on a new book-buying platform.

Ffolio.cymru is a new, simple to use website that will enable customers to support independent publishing and bookshops in Wales with each purchase.

Adnodd and the Welsh Government are helping schools in Wales to make the most of this new book-selling platform developed by the Books Council of Wales.

Thanks to Adnodd funding, each school in Wales will have a Ffolio.cymru account and will receive a welcome credit boost of £50 per school to spend on books to celebrate the new platform launching. This initiative, announced on World Book Day 2026, will boost access to books and help support and inspire children and young people to develop a love of reading.

Starting from as little as 99p schools can choose the books that best reflect their local communities and the interests of their young readers.

Minister for Culture, Jack Sargeant said:

“Folio.cymru is an easy-to-use way for schools to access books for their learners, and is just one of many initiatives we are supporting as part of the National Year of Reading in Wales. This investment will support schools to buy new books for learners, whilst also supporting independent business in Wales.

It is important that children enjoy reading and having access to interesting books is crucial to help develop a love of reading. As we celebrate World Book Day, I’m please to be supporting Adnodd and the Books Council of Wales to announce this fantastic new service.”

Emyr George, Adnodd CEO said:

“Inspiring a lifelong love of learning is one of Adnodd’s core aims, and literacy is central to everyone’s learning journey. Schools have told us how important it is to have quick and easy access to relevant resources for their learners. By enabling schools to receive credit into their Ffolio.cymru accounts we will encourage teachers to explore the wide range of books and resources available and to choose the ones most relevant to their school community.”

Helgard Krause, Books Council of Wales CEO said:

“We are grateful to Welsh Government and Adnodd for their investment and collaboration with us on this exciting platform. Enabling young readers across Wales to have more fantastic books to enjoy is a key priority for us and launching ffolio.cymru is great way to celebrate World Book Day.”

As Ffolio.cymru launches, Adnodd and the Books Council of Wales will continue to work closely with schools to ensure the platform evolves in line with the needs of practitioners and learners. This investment marks an important step in widening access to high‑quality reading materials and supporting the goals of the Curriculum for Wales.

By giving schools greater control over the books they choose, the initiative aims to boost literacy, foster a lasting love of reading, and support the ambition for every child and young person in Wales to flourish.
